LGBT 101: Let's learn about LGBTQIA+ identities and sexualities.

LGBTQIA+ is
An acronym for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual/Agender/Aromantic. The plus (+) sign is used to encompass all other self-identifying people not represented in the acronym and recognizes the diversity of self-identities and sexual orientations.

Lesbian: A woman who experiences sexual and/or romantic attraction to another woman.

Gay: An individual who experiences sexual and/or romantic attraction to other people who identify as the same gender.
It is commonly used to describe MLM (Man loving man) relationships.

Bisexual: An individual who experiences sexual and/or romantic attraction that is not limited to one gender.

Pansexual: An individual who experiences sexual and/or romantic attraction to people regardless of their gender identities.

Transgender: An umbrella term for people whose gender identities and/or expression is different from Cultured expectations based on the sex they were assigned at birth.

Queer: A reclaimed derogatory slur that is now used to describe a range of Sexual orientations and gender identities other than Straight or Cisgender.
The "Q" in the LGBTQIA+ acronym may also sometimes mean questioning.

Non Binary: An individual who exist somewhere along the spectrum of gender, whether between male and female or outside of gender binary as a whole.
Non binary individuals may use terms like gender non-conforming, Agender, Bigender to describe themselves.

Intersex: An umbrella term that is used to describe People who are born with any of several variation in sex characteristics, including chromosomes, sex hormones, or genitals that can't be classified as typically male or female.

Asexual: An individual who generally doesn't experience sexual attraction to others of any gender.

Aromantic: An individual who generally doesn't experience romantic attraction to others of any gender.

Agender: An individual who identifies as not having a gender. Some may describe themselves as genderless, while others see themselves as gender neutral.

Gender Fluid: An individual whose gender identity varies over time.
A gender fluid person may at any time identify as male, female, Agender, or any other non binary Identities.

Genderqueer: An individual who identifies as neither male or female ( but as other gender), as somewhere in between or beyond genders, or as a combination of genders.
The Best way to reduce prejudice and discrimination against the LGBTQIA+ community is by educating yourself and others.
